Brief story:
A total of 125 Liberty and Romeo cast iron radiators, paired with Wooden Wheel thermostatic valves in an antique bronze finish, were installed during the 2021–2022 renovation of Hamburg’s historic Warburg Ensemble. Located at Alsterterrasse 10 and Warburgstraße 8–22, the project combines the character of grand nineteenth-century townhouses with the comfort of contemporary heating.
The radiators were selected to complement the buildings’ period interiors. Their traditional forms and cast iron detailing sit naturally alongside the historic architecture, while thermostatic valves allow the room temperature to be adjusted. The installation makes heating part of the interior design, contributing to the atmosphere of these carefully restored spaces.
Situated in Hamburg’s Rotherbaum district, close to the Außenalster, the ensemble brings together a group of nineteenth-century townhouses. Among them is Warburgstraße 18, designed by Martin Haller in the early 1870s. The buildings were adapted to accommodate THE NEW INSTITUTE, with living quarters, workspaces, meeting rooms, a library and shared spaces arranged around a garden.
